You can play a very important part in helping a family member or friend who has been a victim of sexual violence. Are you finding it difficult to cope with your own feelings of sadness, guilt or anger? You may struggle to know how to support your family member or friend. We are here to help you by offering a supportive listening service and information. This service is provided by qualified professional counsellors 
Some things you can do to help the victim:
• Listen without judgement and believe
• Tell them that it is not their fault
• Ask them what they need
• Try to be understanding
• Be patient
• Assure them that they are not to blame
• Offer practical support
• Look after yourself
• Don’t ignore them
• Don’t try to smooth it over and make it better
• Don’t push or ask too many questions
